Jajpur: Three persons including a woman were injured after they were confronted by anti-displacement agitators at Kalinganagar industrial area in Jajpur district on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 9 am today when the pro-industry supporters along with the workers of Tata Steel Plant were carrying out ground leveling and construction of road work at Champeikoili area.

Armed with traditional bows and arrows, around 30 supporters of Visthapan Virodhi Jana Manch (VVJM) attacked the workers leaving three people, including a woman and contractor, injured.

According to reports, the woman identified as Sunami Deogam has been critically injured in the attack. She is now undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

For quite sometime the entire region turned into a mini-battlefield and moreover the VVJM activists also torched a dumper and four motorcycles parked at the site.

The situation was brought to control after police rushed to the site and resorted to blank firing to disperse the agitators. Jajpur SP DS Kutte has said that adequate security would be provided to the workers and others to carry out their work on Friday.

It was after a gap of three months that the ground leveling work was being initiated at the area. Keeping in view the palpable tension, police force has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
