Bhubaneswar: Around three students from Orissa have qualified the IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) joint entrance examination, results of which were published on Monday. The state contributed only 3 percent to the national pass percentage.

Of the total 3, 84,000 students who appeared the examination from across the state, 1,88,000 students have been placed under the result category. Even though Orissa scored a minimal pass percentage, the performance was much better that the previous years, sources claimed. The state students performed well only after the establishment of an IIT in Bhubaneswar recently.

“It is very tough to crack the IIT entrance. A student has to be dedicated towards studies in order to qualify,” Subhrasweta Pashayat, student said.

“This year the pass percent of the state stands at 3 percent, which itself is a good trend compared to past results,” another student said. Meanwhile, the students have earned distinction to enroll themselves in 9 IITs, 5 Indian Institutes of Science and Research, one Indian Institute of Space and Technology in the country.

The students have already made a beeline in front of various institutes for the counseling, which will start from June 9 till 16. “So far we have declared 82 results, out of which 8 are from general category, 15 from other and the rest on merit basis,” Ajay Bahadur, director of Akash Institute said.
